    General Information:
Starting with the winter semester 2005/06, all graduate students of the Institute for Molecular Infection Biology and of the Young Investigator Groups of the Research Center for Infectious Diseases participate in the Graduate Programme “Infectious Diseases Research”. The aim of this programme, as in the Graduate Colleges funded by the DFG, is to provide a more structured education for PhD students studying virulence mechanisms and other aspects of different microbial pathogens in the various research groups (see Scientific programme). The educational programme includes general lectures and seminars, common research seminars of the institute, literature and research seminars of the individual groups, a seminar organised by the students themselves, as well as methods courses. At the same time, the students of this programme are associated with the section "Infection and Immunity" of the "Graduate School of Life Sciences" (GSLS) within the "University of Würzburg Graduate Schools" (UWGS), which ensures a more interdisciplinary education beyond the specific research areas. Each student is guided by an individual Promotion Committee, consisting of the supervisor of the thesis and two additional researchers from other groups or institutes. The promotion committee makes sure that all formal requirements are met, advises and assists the candidate with his/her individual training and supervision plan, and evaluates the thesis and its defense. Annual meetings of the students and the Promotion Committee ensure the scientific progress of the student.
